Young Women Advisory Council

Malala Fund's Young Women Advisory Council is comprised of eight activists dedicated to increasing girls' education access in their communities. Their expertise helps inform our work and how we can best centre girls' needs.

Oghene Gladys Ojiromu

Oghene Gladys is an activist dedicated to promoting gender-responsive education for girls in Nigeria. She served as a Program Officer for Teenage Network, a non-profit organisation advocating to reduce barriers to girls’ education in Nigeria. Her work challenges harmful sociocultural norms and practices, fostering a more inclusive environment for girls to thrive.

Jane Mann-Effiong

Jane Mann-Effiong is a gender equality advocate and media professional who is passionate about advancing girls' education and empowerment. Through her radio programmes “Education On Air”, “Live and Learn” and “Girls Dormitory”, Jane fosters critical conversations around gender equity, sexual and reproductive health rights, and educational reform in northern Nigeria.

Urwa Naeem

Urwa Naeem is an activist dedicated to ensuring quality education for all. As a member of the Pakistan Prime Minister’s National Youth Council, she amplifies youth voices and ensures policies reflect their aspirations. Currently, she serves as the Senior Programme Officer for Research & Advocacy at the Pakistan Coalition for Education. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and is currently pursuing a Master of Philosophy in Development Studies in Pakistan.

Pulietha Massao

Pulietha Massao is a lawyer and human rights advocate championing girls’ access to quality education and breaking down barriers for young mothers and marginalised girls in Tanzania. Pulietha’s ultimate goal is to see young women rise as leaders of the next generation, proving that education is the catalyst for equality and lasting change.

Hanna Kidane

Hanna Kidane is a women’s rights and climate justice advocate in Ethiopia. She served as the Club Service Director and Community Service Director at the Rotaract Club of Atrons. She also sits on the Youth Advisory Panel board at Plan International Ethiopia.

Betty Shitahun

Bethlehem “Betty” Shitahun is an Ethiopian disability rights advocate and co-founder of the Hope for the Deaf Association. As a deaf woman, she advocates for greater resources and support for girls with disabilities. She has worked with the British Council Ethiopia and the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women. Betty is currently a Disability Inclusion Officer at UNICEF Ethiopia, focusing on quality education.

Batool Hassan

Batool Hassan stands up for girls’ education in Pakistan through her push for greater digital literacy among young women. She campaigns to get girls and young women to join technical and vocational education and training institutes, helping them carve out a path toward economic independence. She also serves on the Youth Advisory Council of the Association of Women for Awareness and Motivation (AWAM Pakistan), leading the Young Resilient Women Circle.

Raphaele Godinho

Raphaele Godinho has been an activist for girls' education since she was 16. She participated in youth parliaments throughout Brazil, as well as other global initiatives for female leadership. Today, while working in the technology sector, she remains an advocate for education access and gender equality.
