Malala spoke at the Muslim World League conference in Islamabad, calling on Muslim leaders to stand with Afghan women and girls in codifying gender apartheid as a crime of international law.

"Right now, millions of Afghan girls are effectively imprisoned. But they fight on; calling for justice, calling for the world to stand with them. They are the heroes the history books can teach us about. We must be their champions, until they are free."

"Girls understand the power of education — and they are working to open the school gates wide enough for every child to enter. I know that if we match their determination, fund their work and follow their lead, we will see so much progress in the next ten years."
