We seek lasting solutions to break down the barriers to girls’ education. We focus on getting policies in place to secure the commitments and resources girls need to claim their right to secondary education. In Nigeria and Pakistan, we advocate alongside our partners towards common policy goals that strengthen girls’ rights and unlock resources for their education.
Our priorities
Protecting girls' right to education
We challenge systemic rollbacks in gender equality and girls’ rights that keep or push girls out of school. We focus on supporting the movement to end gender apartheid in Afghanistan, where girls are banned from going to school past grade six.
Unlocking education funding
We confront unjust global financing systems that prevent lower-income countries from investing in their own education systems — unlocking resources for more and better schools, teacher salaries and safe transportation for girls.
Supporting our partners
In Nigeria and Pakistan, we advocate directly alongside grantee partners to ensure government policies and resources enable more girls in each country to access and complete secondary school.
How we advocate
We promote change and accountability at every level.
We focus on strengthening global and national policy frameworks such as international agreements, financing structures, laws and budgets to protect girls’ right to secondary education. We influence decision-makers to invest in and fulfil their commitments to girls' education at the local, national and global levels.

We support collective action.
We build and strengthen alliances to drive policy change across our global and national priority areas, and provide grants to support collective action around shared advocacy priorities.

We bring girls into the conversation.
We call attention to girls’ challenges, priorities and activism through our advocacy platforms. We open doors for girls to engage with policymakers and influence decision-making processes.

Girls' Vision for Education
Delivering on girls' needs for education
Girls know exactly what they want from their education. Governments and global institutions must listen to them and act to deliver on girls’ needs.
Through our Girls’ Vision for Education consultation, more than 800 girls from 30 countries shared critical insights into their challenges and priorities for secondary education. Based on these insights, Malala Fund collaborated with young women leaders and partners to identify five areas for action for governments and global institutions to realise the right to secondary education for all girls.
